FAQs
Please note that this website is designed as an information portal to provide relevant technical resources to improve the health and welfare of New Zealand’s poultry population. Poultry Intel is not in a position to advise backyard poultry keepers on their specific preventive health care plans or on managing specific disease conditions. Any questions you have about your backyard birds or flock should be discussed with your regular veterinarian.

Why did the Turkey Cross the Road?
To prove he wasn’t chicken!
Why should I register to support the Poultry Intel project?
Improving the health and welfare of New Zealand's poultry population is a team effort. By registering your support for participating in a national poultry health information system, you are helping us develop a better understanding of the challenges faced by backyard poultry and how we can prioritise resources to better support you in caring for your birds.
Who will have access to My Data?
We are currently collecting data for the Poultry Intel project using the Qualtrics survey platform hosted by Massey University. Only the project manager (Carolyn Gates) has direct access to the data you submit through the survey forms. No information will be released that allows identification of individuals and organisations unless prior permission is obtained.
How will my data be used?
The data you provide through the survey forms will be anonymised, aggregated, and analysed to identify important health and welfare issues for backyard poultry in New Zealand. This will be used to guide the development of resources and tools to help backyard poultry keepers provide the best possible care for their birds.
Who Should I Contact With Questions About The Poultry Intel Project?
Please direct your inquiries to poultryintel@massey.ac.nz or post a question on our Facebook page. We will aim to respond within 3 to 5 working days. If you have medical questions or concerns about your backyard poultry flock, please contact your veterinarian.
Can I ask veterinary questions through the Poultry Intel website?
The advice and resources presented on the website are not intended to replace the veterinary-client-patient relationship. If you have any concerns about the health of your backyard poultry, we recommend contacting your veterinarian.
Can I withdraw my registration from the Poultry Intel project?
If you wish to withdraw your registration from the Poultry Intel project, please email poultryintel@massey.ac.nz. Please note that the surveys on website content, wellness plans, and illness events do not collect any identifying information and we will be unable to remove your responses from these surveys once they have been submitted.
